Teenage sensation Connor Wickham would reportedly rather join Arsenal than Liverpool.
Only this morning the Daily Mail had suggested that Liverpool were preparing a £10 million bid for the 17-year-old Ipswich striker but now, according to an exclusive report from Goal.com, Wickham has his sights set on a move to Arsenal.
Despite claims that Wickham is a Liverpool fan – citing Anfield hero Fernando Torres as his idol – it is understood the England under 21 international does not believe a switch to the Reds would represent the best for his future.
Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli is thought to have been monitoring Wickham’s progress with Ipswich but, according to Goal.com, he faces an impossible task in convincing the teenager that a move to Anfield is his best option.
The news will come as a blow to Liverpool owners NESV who have pledged to bring exciting young talent to Anfield – especially as it appears they will lose out on Wickham to one of their rivals.
Wickham is thought to favour a move to Arsenal due to the north London club’s nigh on impeccable record of developing young talent into global stars.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is renowned for his ability to persuade the cream of teenage talent to join the Gunners – with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott testament to Wenger’s philosophy when it comes to young players.

Connor Wickham is considered one of the hottest young prospects in English football, a striker dubbed the “Next Wayne Rooney” and it appears the desperately wants to move to the Emirates and given Arsene Wenger’s penchant for collecting the best up and coming players across the world it seems very possible that the Ipswich Town man may soon find himself the subject of a bid from the Gunners.
Clearly at 17 the world is very much as the rangy striker’s feet but he knows as well anyone that Arsenal are a team who trusts a lot to youth and therefore a move to the north London club may well best suit his career.
Some sources believe that Wenger may fork out the fee for the teenager and then loan the player back to the East Anglian side until the end of the season, a deal that will no doubt interest the Tractor Boys.
