WEST HAM are willing to offer Shaun Wright-Phillips an escape route out of his Manchester City hell.
Wright-Phillips’ days are numbered at Eastlands and Roberto Mancini will let the England winger leave next month.
Hammers manager Avram Grant and co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold will meet this week to discuss potential transfer targets, which will include the possibility of making a cut-price move for Wright-Phillips in January.
City splashed £8.5m to bring Wright-Phillips back to the club from Chelsea in 2008 – but they will let him leave on the cheap to get the winger off their wage bill.
With Sullivan and Gold still sorting out the club’s precarious finances, the Hammers are unwilling to break the bank to bring him to Upton Park; Wright-Phillips would have to take a pay-cut from his current £65,000-per-week wages to aid a move. (Daily Star)
This is the kind of signing that may suit all parties. England hopeful Shaun Wright-Phillips knows he has no real future at Eastlands and at 29 can ill afford to waste more of his career warming the bench and the speedy winger also knows that a move to West Ham should bring with it a regular run in the first team and could serve to rejuvenate a career that has stuttered over the past 18 months.
Some sources believe Avram Grant could get the wide man for as little as £5m and he is the type of the player who could help push the east London club away from the drop and add another attacking option to help boost hopes of survival.
