Andy Carroll linked with Chelsea move as Ancelotti tries to end poor run
Andy Carroll has been linked with a move to Chelsea in the new year, with the England striker said to be unhappy at Chris Hughton’s recent sacking at Newcastle.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed the best season of his career so far, making his international debut against France last month.
However, the forward is reported to have been angered at the way Newcastle chose to get rid of Hughton this week.
Alan Pardew is expected to be unveiled as the new manager at St James’ Park later today and he could find himself landed with the immediate task of holding onto the club’s star striker.
Chelsea were rumoured to have been considering making a £7 million bid for Carroll in the summer and could now be set to table a fresh offer in the new year, given the club’s continuing poor form. (The Metro)
It’s been reported that many of Newcastle United’ squad are not happy about Mike Ashley’s decision to sack Chris Hughton and they will be even angrier to see Alan Pardew as his replacement, a manager who could hardly be considered an improvement.
With this in mind, and with Chelsea suffering a spell of poor form and looking to reverse the ageing nature of their first team, a move for the 21 year old England international makes a great deal of sense. With Carlo Ancelotti’s first two choices in Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka both over 30 year of age and entering the autumn of their illustrious careers, a move for a new attacking option would seem to make sense.
Carroll was mightily impressive last term as he helped the St James’ Park side back into the top tier and thus far he has more than proved himself able of being effective in the Premier League. The powerfully built striker has netted nine goals in 15 top tier starts this season, including goals against Arsenal and Chelsea, and would be a wise investment.
