Steve McClaren has revealed that Wolfsburg will deal with Edin Dzeko internally after public dissent against the manager raised further questions about the striker’s future.
Dzeko walked past McClaren’s outstretched hand when being substituted during Saturday’s goalless draw against Werder Bremen and walked straight down the tunnel rather than joining his team-mates on the bench.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international is wanted by Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich, while reports in Spain claimed Real Madrid were considering him if Gonzalo Higuain’s injury lingers.
While McClaren empathises with Dzeko’s frustration – the No 9 missed a penalty against Bremen – the former England manager warned tempers must be kept under control.
‘It’s something we’ll resolve internally, and quickly because we are turning to the next task,’ said the boss.
‘I can understand it (Dzeko’s outburst). Football is a sport where there are lots of emotions and you have to manage them.’
The 24-year-old has indicated he will not move in the winter transfer window and Wolfsburg have little appetite to do a deal for under his £33.5million release clause.
Anyone willing to meet the fee must bid before the clause expires at the end of May, when Dzeko will have two years left to run on his contract at the Volkswagen Arena. (Daily Mail)
It seems that Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko is getting a little bored of single-handedly attempting to bring his former Bundesliga title winners back up the table and is now showing signs of a player who really does not want to be at the club any longer and you can kind of understand his point.
In the title winning side of 2008/9 the Bosnian netted a very impressive 36 goals in all competitions. The following season Wolfsburg could only manage an eighth placed finish but Dzeko still managed to score 29 goals and finished the top scorer in the Bundesliga. This current season sees Edin doing much the same, scoring eighth goals in 15 matches as Steve McClaren’s side struggle in 13th spot.
Roberto Mancini is known to be a fan and whilst he clearly has a number of striking options currently at Eastlands but the signs are that the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Jo will be sold either in January or in the summer.
