Reported Liverpool target Yann M’Vila has admitted he would love to play in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old Rennes midfielder has seen his stock rise dramatically in recent times after a string of commanding performances in Ligue 1 saw him drafted into the France national team.
He has since been linked with a number of English clubs – including Tottenham and Aston Villa – but Liverpool are thought to be the frontrunners for the €15 million-rated Frenchman.
M’Vila is a tough tackling, combative midfielder; attributes which would see him suited to the Premier League – something the France international readily admits.
He told L’Equipe: “Which league do I watch on TV? The Premier League! It matches my game.
“It is a warrior’s game, where you have to show plenty of fighting spirit.
“I like to watch Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, but also Manchester City.
“I’m a big fan of the English state of mind and tackling.
“You can’t leave for a big club to be a substitute. I prefer to stay at my club to improve. I want to work more on the attacking aspect of my game – scoring and assisting.”
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have registered their interest in M’Vila as Roy Hodgson looks to add more steel to his midfield in January.
The Liverpool boss currently has defensive midfield trio Raul Meireles, Lucas Leiva and Christian Poulsen at his disposal but is thought to be keen bolster his ranks when the transfer window opens.
New Liverpool owners NESV will reportedly back their manager with upwards of £25 million in the transfer market in order to push the club towards the much coveted top four of the Premier League.
Reinforcements in defence and attack also appear to be on the cards for Liverpool with January expected to be a busy month at Anfield. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
There we have it.
Yann M’Vila will move to whichever big club in the Premier League has an offer accepted first.
Manchester City like to collect defensive midfielders, but probably have enough by now. With M’Vila unwilling to accept anything other than a first team role, one imagines he would be reluctant to sign for Roberto Mancini’s side.
Their local rivals Manchester United though have needed an enforcer since Owen Hargreaves got injured, with Darren Fletcher filling the gap at the moment and curbing his desire to attack.
Arsenal too need someone who will sit in front of the defence and break up play – especially given that Alex Song no longer curbs his attacking instincts.
Chelsea’s formation doesn’t really suit a spoiler. The 4-3-3 they play requires someone at the base of the midfield three to start moves from deep, and though that could be M’Vila, it would mean John Obi Mikel lost his place in the side.
As for Liverpool, it is difficult to say.
Christian Poulsen was always a short-term replacement for Javier Mascherano, but with Lucas and Raul Meireles forming a promising partnership in central midfield (at least at home), one would have to be dropped for M’Vila to come in.
Liverpool would be better off strengthening other areas of the team.
