Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham could battle it out for the signature of Inter’s £8.5 million-rated right-back Davide Santon, Goal.com UK can reveal, as the teenager’s agent confirmed that he is set to meet with all three London clubs.
The 19-year-old’s career has faltered since Rafael Benitez arrived at San Siro in the summer and he is angry at being played out of position, leading to a breakdown in the relationship with his manager.
The player’s agent Renzo Contratto has confirmed to Goal.com UK that his desire is to leave Milan and head to one of the English capital’s Champions League clubs.
Contratto said: “Of course he [Santon] wants to move to England and he has a number of different options, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
“We have a number of meetings lined up for the coming days with them, we’ll know more after that point. (Goal.com)
Teenager Davide Santon is considered one of the hottest prospects in Italian football but the youngster can’t seem to break into Rafa Benitez’s first team reckoning which has left the right back with no other option than to leave the club and according to the youngster’s agent a move to the Premier League is very much on the cards.
Clearly having Brazilian legend Maicon ahead of you in the pecking order is always going to have a negative effect on your progress and now the powerfully built full back feels the time is right to leave the San Siro and some sources believe that Arsenal lead the chase given their penchant for giving youngsters a fighting chance of regular first team football.
Clearly Bakary Sagna is a first team regular at the Emirates but given Santon’s age and his potential a move for the Inter Milan man makes good sense and the price quoted seems very reasonable for a player with half a dozen international caps to his name.
Given that Santon is already in London having talks with prospective buyers a move in January seems eminently plausible.
