Manchester United are considering a move for Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon as Sir Alex Ferguson continues to search for a long term replacement for Edwin Van der Sar. The Old Trafford boss is known to be a big admirer of the Scottish international and is ready to make a move for the 27 year old in the summer.
Even though United agreed a deal to sign Danish international Anders Lindegaard in recent weeks Ferguson is still looking for a more experienced character to take over from Van der Sar and has earmarked a move for the former Hearts custodian.
Gordon has been in excellent form since returning from injury and has three clean sheets in the six Premier League games he has started this season. Steve Bruce would be loathed to lose the talented Edinburgh born keeper but may struggle to keep the player from having his head turned by such interest.
Sunderland paid £9m for Craig Gordon in the summer of 2007 and has been consistent throughout his time at the Stadium of Light but has had a few problems with injuries during his time at the club. The £12m rated goalie may well be tempted to make the move even if the Black Cats would presumably fight to prevent his exit, the chance to compete for major silverware as well as participating in the Champions League could act as all the motivation he would need to force the club to sell.
