Arsene Wenger is ready to give up on the Brazilian midfielder, who has failed to progress as much as the Frenchman would have liked in his time at the Emirates Stadium.
As a result, the north Londoners are prepared to let Denilson leave the club – especially if the interested Bundesliga club are, as is being reported in Germany, ready to offer up to an eight-figure sum for him.
The frugal Wenger is reluctant to splash out on any players this winter, after admitting a few weeks ago he is unlikely to raid the transfer market.
However, if he can sell on Denilson at a premium then the Gunners chief is ready to reinvest the money in his team immediately with a move for out-of-favour City defender Lescott.
The former Everton man is finding it tough to break into the first team at a star-studded Eastlands and wants regular football to reinvigorate his career.
Arsenal are short of cover at centre-half, with Thomas Vermaelen still on the road to recovery after injury and only Johan Djourou, Laurent Koscielny, and Sebastien Squillaci to choose from otherwise.
Lescott is thought to be amenable to a move to London for a fresh start – especially as Arsenal can offer Champions League football and a possible Premier League title charge. (The Metro)
Let’s forget for a moment the fact that Manchester City paid a frighteningly silly £24m for the services of former Everton man Joleon Lescott, then let’s forget that the England international barely gets a game at Eastlands, let’s concentrate on the fact that Roberto Mancini would never sell any of his players to club’s he considers rivals. Perhaps however the Italian would be willing to make an exception on this occasion as he may believe that this sale may in fact help scupper an opponent!
Seriously this takes some fathoming. Yes Arsene Wenger is looking for more defensive options but why oh why would he look to sign a player who was clearly bought by City for about five times his actual value for seemingly no good reason at all.
Is there any Arsenal fan on planet Earth who thinks that a) this could ever happen in a million years of b) would actually welcome the 28 year old utility defender to the club?
