Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is rumoured to be interested in Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck and hopes to beat Sunderland to the punch and land the youngster in the summer. The 20 year old has been a big success at the Stadium of Light and seems likely to leave Old Trafford when the season comes to a close.
Welbeck has netted five goals in his last six games for the Black Cats and formed a great partnership with fellow strikers Asamoah Gyan and Darren Bent and Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is said to be interested in the Man United man.
Sir Alex Ferguson may well listen to offers for Danny Welbeck as he will clearly be low down the pecking order at Man United and although contracted to the club until 2013 the local born striker may well feel he needs to move on in order to further his career.
Hodgson may well be able to win the race for the striker, who can also play out wide, and his good relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson could help his case to sign the promising England Under 21 international. The Liverpool manager has been told by the club’s new owners that they are primarily looking at new signings being long term prospects that can help the Merseyside outfit develop a bright future and as such a move for Welbeck would make a great deal of sense.
