Jan Vertonghen may be a more likely Gunners purchase though as the defender/defensive midfielder may be just the type of battler than Wenger is looking for to help add steel to this side and of course the fact that he is Thomas Vermaelen’s international defensive partner may well help convince the Emirates boss that such a move makes a great deal of sense.
Suarez is valued at around £20m whereas Vertonghen would cost in the region of £8-10m.
