Manchester City’s efforts to bolster their Barclays Premier League title hopes by signing striker Edin Dzeko have been rocked by a stunning £38million price tag.
City manager Roberto Mancini has identified the Wolfsburg star as the man he wants in the January window but Sportsmail understands that the Bundesliga club have already set the asking price prohibitively high.

So it appears that Roberto Mancini will once again attempt to lure Liverpool striker Fernando Torres to Eastlands and whilst this source appears to believe that he is a realistic target for mega rich Man City it does seem highly unlikely that such a deal would ever be struck.

Liverpool’s new owners would never sanction such a sale, knowing that to do so would make them extremely unpopular with the supporters, something they are unlikely to want to do so soon into their Anfield reign. Roy Hodgson would also never allow such a move as it would mean the club would essentially have no effective attacking weapon.

The only plausible possibility is that the 26 year old Spanish international asks to leave and then he would only do so in order to force a sale to a La Liga side and certainly not to another Premier League outfit. For the time being at least however he seems keen to stay at Liverpool as he looks to help push the Merseyside club back towards the top four.
