TOTTENHAM are planning a January transfer swoop for disaffected Blackburn centre-half Christopher Samba – but could face competition from north London rivals Arsenal.
Harry Redknapp is looking at strengthening his team’s push for the Premier League title and their Champions League chances, and powerful 6ft 4ins defender Samba – who can also play as an emergency striker – certainly fits the bill.
Samba, who wants to leave Rovers after manager Sam Allardyce’s controversial sacking, is the right age at 26, and the right price at about £8million. (Daily Express)
Christopher Samba is the type of no nonsense centre back that everyone would like to have at the heart of their defence and therefore it is no huge surprise that the no moment the French born Congolese international made it clear he wanted to leave Blackburn Rovers that a long queue would form at his door.
The giant defender has proven himself to be a very capable defender during his four and a bit seasons in the Premier League and would suit both Arsenal and Tottenham who both appear to be in the market for defensive signings.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on further strengthening his back line following the signings of Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci, two signings that have been varying degrees of success with Koscielny appearing to have occasional problems with his positioning and Squillaci occasionally struggling with the pace of the English game.
Harry Redknapp has huge injury concerns with this centre backs with the likes of Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate, Wiiliam Gallas and Michael Dawson all having problems getting to full fitness and staying clear of any knocks.
Samba would probably jump at the chance of a move to a club that could offer him Champions League football so it will be interesting to see where he ends up in January if he does indeed leave Ewood Park in protest at the sacking of Sam Allardyce.
