Manchester City are in talks with Wolfsburg over the transfer of Edin Dzeko, BBC Sport understands.
Reports in Germany have suggested that the Premier League outfit are now on the verge of signing the Bosnian striker for a record Bundesliga fee.
But such accounts are premature, with talks between City’s chief negotiator Brian Marwood and Dzeko’s agent still at an early stage.
Dzeko is under contract until 2013 and has a buy-out clause of around £30m.
The 24-year-old was linked with a number of clubs last summer but remained with Wolfsburg after clubs failed to meet the escape clause in his deal. With the German club enduring a frustrating season under former England manager Steve McClaren, Dzeko could be on his way to Eastlands when the transfer window opens at the beginning of January. Some sources have stated that now that Manchester City’s offer has met Edin Dzeko’s buy-out clause that the 24 year old is sure to complete the deal to bring him to Eastlands. The Wolfsburg striker has battled bravely for the Bundesliga side after a tough 18 months following their surprise title triumph of 2008/9 and now the Bosnian is on his way to the Premier League.
The likes of Chelsea and Juventus were also said to be keen on signing the powerful marksman but after Dzeko contacted Man City directly about a potential move it seemed to be only a matter of time before a deal was struck.
This move begs the question “what about all the other strikers at the City of Manchester Stadium?”. Well one can see Dzeko being able to partner up with live wire Carlos Tevez but quite how the club then fits in Mario Balotelli or Emmanuel Adebayor is another matter. The young Italian can of course play out wide but perhaps this move brings the homesick star nearer to a move back to Serie A?
