Jose Mourinho joins the chase for Cesc Fabregas by launching £35m swoop for Arsenal’s captain
Jose Mourinho is plotting a £35million bid for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas to get one over Real Madrid’s greatest rivals.
Barcelona are set to revive their long-running interest in the Spain midfielder, but Madrid are planning a summer coup that would send shockwaves through Catalonia.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has no intention of parting with a player who is under contract till 2015, but that has not stopped La Liga’s biggest two testing the water again by planting stories in the Spanish press.
A day after Barcelona-based El Mundo Deportivo reported that the champions were keeping their symbolic No 4 shirt clear for Fabregas, Madrid paper Marca insisted on their front page that Real would also enter the bidding.
Mourinho, frustrated by his club ruling out January reinforcements, has reportedly told his bosses to put all their efforts into signing the 23-year-old at the end of the season. (Daily Mail)
Quite where this story came from is beyond me. The idea that Real Madrid would think they would have a chance in hell of signing a player who a) is a Barcelona youth product and b) has stated his desire to return to the Nou Camp, would consider a move to the Bernabeu is frankly ridiculous.
Jose Mourinho may well want the Arsenal skipper but he would know all to well that he has no chance of persuading the Spanish international to come to the La Liga giants. Arsene Wenger will fight off any interest in the 23 year old midfielder but in this instance the Emirates boss will have no need to ward off Real Madrid’s interest as Cesc Fabregas will simply not entertain the notion of such a move.
There is no doubt that come the summer the speculation of a Barcelona move for Fabregas will resurface and if the season ends with the north London club not having secured either the Premier League or the Champions League, then the chances of a Gunners exit increase significantly.
