David Beckham could sign for a Barclays Premier League side as early as next week with the iconic midfielder eager to fast-track his return to top-level action.
Beckham is in search of two months of high-intensity football before returning to LA Galaxy to see out the final year of his contract with the MLS side.
To that end, he is ready to go back on his assertion that he would only ever play for Manchester United on these shores despite reiterating that stance just 10 days ago.
Beckham expects to be granted permission for yet another loan move by LA Galaxy – he has already had two separate spells with AC Milan – within the next 48 hours.
Once that is complete, the 35-year-old will move quickly to tie up a short-term move to maximise his playing time prior to the MLS season kicking off in mid-March. Beckham’s advisers have been inundated with offers of interest from English clubs along with teams in Spain and Italy.
No detailed discussions have taken place yet but should the former England captain opt to come home he will be able to take his pick from Tottenham, West Ham, Sunderland, Newcastle, Blackburn and Everton – although Beckham appeared to have previously ruled out a move to Goodison Park.(Daily Mirror)
David Beckham has stated on several occasions that he would only return to England to return to Old Trafford but Sir Alex Ferguson has nipped talk of that happening in the bud by stating that he was perhaps too old to play for Man United again.
Maybe then a move elsewhere is a possibility and of the teams named perhaps Newcastle and Tottenham would be the most likely to land the 35 year old who would surely have something to add to both sides on a short team deal.
LA Galaxy were keen to prevent Landon Donovan from pursuing another loan move to Europe but appear less concerned about allowing David Beckham doing so and that is more than likely down to the fact that the American has been playing pretty much non stop for quite some time due to his involvement in the World Cup, a tournament that Becks spent most of the time sitting on the bench with his sleeves rolled up so that everyone could see his 97 tattoos.
