West Ham boss Avram Grant is hoping to persuade Stoke City’s experienced Icelandic international Eidur Gudjohnsen to make the move to his relegation battling Upton Park side. The former Chelsea and Barcelona star has not managed to force his way into the Britannia Stadium first team reckoning and Tony Pulis has announced he is willing to entertain offers for the 32 year old.
A mixture of fitness and form issues have meant that the adaptable attacker has not started a single Premier League game this season and may well be tempted by a move back to London and the promise of first team football, something he has struggled to secure since he left Chelsea in 2006.
Gudjohnsen spent large chunks of his successful three season stint with Barcelona warming the bench and a cameo spell at Tottenham failed to result in a permanent deal and the two time Premier League champion would have thought that at Stoke City he would at least get to play but that has not proven to be the case.
Upton Park co-owners have been looking in several high profile signings to help them push away from the drop zone, with the likes of Thierry Henry, David Beckham and Michael Owen previously been linked with a move to to the east London side.
Gudjohnsen can be effective in a number of roles across the midfield as well as behind the strikers or indeed even in his past role as one of the front two and therefore could be a very handy player to have around in order to stave off the threat of relegation.
