Manchester United are eying a move for Hapoel Tel Aviv stopper Vincent Enyeama , according to the Nigerian Sunday Tribune newspaper.
40-year-old Van der Sar is expected to retire from the Old Trafford outfit at the end of the season, and although the Reds have signed Anders Lindegaard from Norwegian side Aalesunds FK, the Dane isn’t expected to slot straight into the first-team.
Enyeama, 28, has been immense for Hapoel Tel Aviv in recent seasons, and impressed for Nigeria against Argentina at the 2010 World Cup. [Click here to watch video of Enyeama thwarting Messi and Co.]
Enyeama is contracted to Hapoel until the end of the season and is valued at €2.5M-5M. (IMScouting)
It seems the most crucial aspect of this highly unlikely bit of transfer tittle tattle is that it originally comes from a Nigerian Sunday paper and clearly their love of their national team keeper may have somewhat swayed the accuracy of their reporting.
There is no doubting that Hapoel Tel Aviv keeper Vincent Enyeama is a quality goalie and his performances in Israel and in recent Champions League encounters as well as at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa have shown that he has real quality. However a move to Manchester United is just a little too much to take in.
Sir Alex Ferguson does appear to be looking for another goalkeeping option and may not see Anders Lindegaard as the man to take Edwin Van der Sar’s spot and he has therefore been linked with the likes of Atletico Madrid youngster David De Gea and Schalke and Germany keeper Manuel Neuer, two players who have proven top level experience, something Enyeama as yet, has none of.
