Owen Coyle insists Bolton would not accept anything less than £20milion for Gary Cahill.
The Bolton boss acknowledges that Cahill is attracting interest, and is not surprised given the England international’s performances so far this year.
Coyle even concedes a move is possible, but insists any major switch would be better in the summer from the player’s point of view.
“I don’t fear bids for Gary or any other player. Could it happen? Yes, because they are quality players.
“But when they move for £20million, £25m or £30m, which is what it takes to buy them, they would be better moving in the summer as they need a pre-season as if they move in January they are under too much pressure to make an immediate impact.”
Gunners chief Arsene Wenger has hinted he could be ready to let Carlos Vela leave on loan and Bolton, who brought in Jack Wilshere last season, have been suggested as a likely destination.
“Carlos Vela is an outstanding player,” said Coyle.
“I think Arsene said at the weekend he could go on loan and people have looked and put two and two together.
“We have a good relationship with Arsenal, obviously with Jack Wilshere last year and hopefully we played a small part in his development, and there is no doubting Carlos Vela is a wonderful player.” (Sky Sports)
This would lead some to believe that Arsene Wenger could well use Carlos Vela as leverage to help secure the signing of Gary Cahill, a player that the Emirates boss has been strongly linked with for quite some time. The Arsenal boss has been looking to strengthen his defence and will surely have been impressed by the England international’s performances this season which have helped catapult Bolton into seventh spot.
Despite the signings of Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci the Gunners are still not looking all that sound at the back and are prone to an error or two and perhaps having the big Sheffield born defender as part of their back four will help shore things up for the north London side.
Carlos Vela is struggling to find his way into the Arsenal first team and Wenger has stated his intentions to loan the Mexican out and would preferably like to have him playing Premier League football and therefore a move to the Reebok Stadium, where Jack Wilshere was greatly helped, would make a great deal of sense and perhaps such a loan move would help sweeten any big money move for Gary Cahill.
Bolton Wanderers are reportedly heavily in debt and will be forced to sell one of their prized assets and it seems that Cahill is the most bankable player on their books and the fact that Owen Coyle is even mentioning potential valuations for the player seems to clearly indicate that they will sell the defender if the right offer comes along.
