Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has told Daniel Sturridge he won’t be allowed join Liverpool on loan.
The 21-year-old is eyeing a temporary switch away from Stamford Bridge after becoming frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunites, with Liverpool believed to be his preferred destination.
But Ancelotti insists the former Manchester City striker still has an important role to play in his side’s title defence and is staying put for the rest of the season.
Ancelotti said: “Daniel Sturridge has not asked me to go on loan and if he does ask me I will tell him: ‘no way.’
“He is a good player and will soon have more opportunities from the beginning of games for us.” (talkSPORT)
Having reportedly asked for a £5m transfer to Liverpool last month, Daniel Sturridge continues to be linked with a move away from Chelsea.
However, whether Liverpool actually have any interest in the player remains unclear – as it seems to be Sturridge himself pining for a change of scenery, with Anfield seemingly his preferred destination.
As much as Roy Hodgson’s team could immediately use Sturridge though, he is getting game time at Chelsea – however irregular – and with both Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka the wrong side of 30, he will start matches sooner rather than later.
