Liverpool are being linked with a January move for Newcastle United winger Wayne Routledge.
The 25-year-old joined the Toon a year ago from Championship outfit QPR, and now Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is reportedly ready to make an offer for the player.
An £8 million valuation is believed to have been placed on the player’s head by Alan Pardew, who has used the winger sparingly since his arrival at St James’ Park.
The Metro claims the Hodgson’s interest in Routledge has peaked after the Anfield outfit were priced out of a move for Charles N’Zogbia, and the Liverpool boss is keen to add width and pace in the transfer window. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
First off £8m seems a bit steep a fee to pay for a player who is by no means a regular at St James’ Park and secondly Wayne Routledge is one of those players who really does frustrate fans. He clearly has ability and on his day can be unplayable but the fact he has flitted from club to club over the past few years tells its own story.
Far too often the 25 year old winger can be seen skipping down the wing at will only to ruin it all with a sub standard cross that fails to beat the first man and Alan Pardew would probably consider any offers of that size for a player who takes the phrase flattering to deceive to new levels.
Roy Hodgson is reportedly looking for more natural width at the club but a move for the former Tottenham man would probably not really resolve the issue.
