Recovering West Ham United are said to be desperate to bolster their squad in a bid to survive relegation this season.
They have looked shaky at the back throughout the campaign and have been heavily linked with moves for several defenders, with Man City’s out-of-favour Wayne Bridge as a principal target.
However, should any deal for Bridge fall through, several sources have pinpointed Liverpool’s Emiliano Insua as a potential signing.
West Ham are struggling financially and are widely tipped to use the loan market to strengthen in January. The London club are said to be broke and trading off game receipts so a pay by play basis would suit them to the ground.
Insua has been out on loan with Turkish club Galatasaray and his deal is due to end on June 30th with an option to buy the Argentine. However, Insua has looked closer to an early January return to his parent club as current club manager, Gheorghe Hagi has stated he does not want any loan players at his club.
A deal with Fiorentina for the wing-back had been confirmed in the summer worth around £4.2m, however no contract was ever signed and the deal fell through. Now it would seem Insua is keen to return to England and a temporary deal with the Hammer’s could be his opportunity to impress. (Transfer Tavern)
A move for Emiliano Insua could well suit all parties as the Argentine appears to be stuck in a type of limbo having failed to complete his move to Fiorentina and a move to West Ham may be a good way to get the Argentine firing on all cylinders again.
It seems more likely that Avram Grant will attempt to lure the 21 year old to Upton Park on a loan deal and then perhaps a permanent deal would follow depending on his performances or indeed whether the Hammers survive the drop.
Insua is one of those attack minded full backs who is still yet to learn how best to balance the forward momentum he undoubtedly offers with the ability to be positionally aware enough to know when to commit and when to stay at the back, this is clearly a skill you only learn with experience so therefore a move to Upton Park could well help give that chance of a regular spot in the first team that he needs.
