Liverpool will apparently axe manager Roy Hodgson after the Merseyside club fell to a humiliating defeat against Blackburn Rovers that was apparently the final straw for the club’s new owners. The 63 year old boss has presided over a truly awful period of the Anfield club’s rich history and though a last minute winner at home to Bolton on the weekend spared him the sack the 3-1 loss at Ewood Park effectively brought his reign to an end.
Some sources are claiming that there will be a press conference tomorrow morning and that the former Fulham boss will be given his marching orders and that there is a very strong possibility Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish may well be appointed as a caretaker manager for a short period of time until the club’s owners can appoint a suitable replacement.
Whilst these reports remain unconfirmed the fact that Roy Hodgson was ushered away from the post match press conference barely two minutes in, at the exact point when reporters were lining up questions about his future, appeared to be a sign that the axe was all but set to swing for the Croydon born manager.
William Hill have slashed the odds on Hodgson being the next manager to be axed to 4/7 which is some way clear of his fellow under fire managers Carlo Ancelotti (9/4) Avram Grant (7/2) and Gerard Houllier (13/2), which may lead some to suggest that they have been tipped off or have prior knowledge of what may well be revealed in the morning.
