Liverpool want Bolton boss Owen Coyle to replace Roy Hodgson, according to reports.
Stories claim the former Burnley manager has shot to the top of the Anfield shortlist after Marseille boss Didier Deschamps and former Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard ruled themselves out.
Coyle has won admirers for an attractive style of passing football at Bolton, where predecessors Sam Allardyce and Gary Megson were noted for the direct play.
Hodgson is believed to be expecting the sack after Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie at Manchester United and is even claimed to have made a farewell speech to players after their midweek defeat at Blackburn. (Daily Mirror)
So there you have it. Roy Hodgson to be given the task of taking on Man United in FA Cup action and then axed shortly after. What if however he leads Liverpool to triumph at Old Trafford? Would he then be spared the sack? Also if the former Fulham manager is really about to be fired, and that does seem to be the case, why not just get on with it and place someone in charge as a caretaker boss?
Now would seem the ideal time to remove Hodgson from his post as the next Premier League match is not for five days and therefore there is time to bed someone in before Liverpool take on Blackpool.
Do Liverpool supporters think that Owen Coyle would be the right man for the job? The Scot has had great success during his brief tenure at Bolton Wanderers and would surely do a better job that Roy “rub my face till it hurts” Hodgson!
