SOL CAMPBELL could be set for an incredible third spell at Arsenal as boss Arsene Wenger looks for defensive reinforcements.
Campbell, 36, is unhappy at Newcastle, finding himself down the pecking order after the sacking of manager Chris Hughton.
Wenger would like the ex-England man, who he has signed twice before, on a short-term contract until the summer.
Arsenal have suffered a catalogue of injuries in central defence.
And the capture of Campbell would offer Wenger cheap cover as new Newcastle boss Alan Pardew would let him leave for free. (The Express)
So would a move to bring back the former Arsenal centre back for a third spell be as crazy as it sounds? Well on the face of it there seems little chance this would happen but then again Wenger has been harping on about bringing in new defensive options and he isn’t a big fan of spending big money in January so perhaps he would see a move for the 36 year old as a short term solution to his defensive problems?
Sol Campbell did a good job when he returned to north London last January but appears to not be a player that Alan Pardew wishes to make use of. The veteran centre back has done okay when called upon and during his three Premier League starts Newcastle United have beaten Liverpool and drawn with Chelsea.
Would Arsenal fans welcome Campbell back as a last resort?
