Roberto Mancini is looking to trim down his squad after bringing in £27m striker Edin Dzeko. The Manchester City boss has his sights set on making one or two more signings this month but has been told by the club’s owners that he must first cut costs by offloading players who are on the fringes of the first team. With this in mind the Eastlands boss is looking to sell Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz, Wayne Bridge or Shaun Wright-Phillips who cost the club a combined total of £63.5m to sign.
Mancini knows he is unlikely to receive anything like that sort of outlay for players he deems surplus to requirements but there will be no shortage of interested parties nonetheless. Emmanuel Abebayor’s first team chances will be even more limited now that Dzeko has arrived and Tottenham and Juventus are two sides said to be keen on the Togo international.
Liverpool are thought to be interested in Shaun Wright-Phillips but the Anfield club’s owners are thought to be reticent to back bids for players with little re-sale value or who are in the autumn of their careers and both statements could be applied to the England international but Kenny Dalglish may be keen on bringing the 29 year old in on a loan deal.
West Ham appear to be leading the chase for full back Wayne Bridge but Fulham are also said to be considering a move for the former Chelsea man and former Man City boss Mark Hughes would also very much like to bring in Roque Santa Cruz but are not willing to offer more than £6m for the Paraguayan who cost £17.5m around 18 months ago.
