Birmingham City’s movements in the transfer window have continued as David Bentley undergoes a medical at the club, while they have given Newcastle permission to speak to Sebastian Larsson.
Blues boss Alex McLeish is looking to strengthen this winter and Tottenham midfielder Bentley is edging ever closer to agreeing a switch to St Andrews.
The 26-year-old has fallen out of favour at Spurs and Harry Redknapp is happy to let him leave White Hart Lane as he searches for first-team football.
However, Larsson could be making his way out of City after Newcastle were given permission to speak to the Swede.
His contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign and talks were ongoing about an extension to his current deal.
But Larsson, 25, could now be on his way to St James’ Park after the Magpies were alerted to his situation following some top form this term. (Sky Sports)
This could well be a good bit of business for Alan Pardew. Former Arsenal youth team star Sebastian Larsson is a very talented player with a great deal of Premier League experience under his belt. The 25 year old Swedish international is a top notch set piece taker and is more than adept at making something out of nothing and can also weigh in with his fair share of goals.
Larsson has been a regular at Birmingham City ever since his successful loan stint at the club and has notched up 150+ starts over the past four and a half years.
He will reportedly cost the St James’ Park side around £2m because his contract is due to end at Birmingham City at the end of the season and by snapping him up now Newcastle United save themselves from having to go head to head with prospective suitors looking to get him for free.
