Arsenal have once again set their sights on Gary Cahill after defender injuries at the Emirates, claim reports.
The England international centre back first emerged as a target in north London this summer, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger thought to be keen on the player.
Chelsea have also been linked with the player recently, forcing Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle to put a price tag in the region of £20 million on the player’s head.
However, the need for a defender signing appears great at Arsenal following a weekend injury picked up by Sebastien Squillaci. He joins Thomas Vermaelen on the sidelines, leaving Wenger with few options at the centre back position.
“If Squillaci has a problem then we must quickly go out for a player,” said the Gunners chief earlier today.

There is no denying that Arsene Wenger is in a bit of a pickle and injury concerns over Thomas Vermaelen and Sebastien Squillaci have coupled with the fact the north London club already had few central defensive options and now Arsene Wenger is on the look out for reinforcements.
Reports suggest that the Emirates boss is only willing to offer £17m for England international Gary Cahill, which seems a fair price, but is below Owen Coyle’s valuation. However the fact that Bolton are in high level of debt may force the Reebok Stadium club to accept the offer and surely the Sheffield born centre back would be very tempted by a move to the North London club.
Arsenal have been guilty of some defensive errors this season and Wenger has identified a number of targets to bring in this month. The likes of Per Mertesacker and Neven Subotic are also high up on Wenger’s wish-list but Cahill’s proven Premier League record may see him as the pick of the bunch.
The 25 year old has shown great potential and has been a consistent performer for the past couple of years and may well add some needed steel at the back.
