AC Milan look set to scupper Tottenham and Manchester City’s move for Mark van Bommel.
The 33-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder is out of contract in the summer, but both Premier League clubs are keen to snap him up this month.
Milan officials, however, are ready to follow up their interest in him by holding talks with Bayern this week. (Daily Mirror)
Considered by some as just a overly aggressive bother boy, Mark Van Bommel is a player who has practically won the lot and played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe and perhaps the addition of an experienced performer to add more steel to the White Hart Lane side would do them a lot of good. Harry Redknapp clearly thinks so as he has been linked with a move for the 33 year old.
The Bayern Munich may would be available for as little as £3m and could be a very handy player to have in the club’s armoury and the likes of Rafael Van der Vaart would know all about playing alongside the former PSV and Barcelona star.
Harry Redknapp has spoken previously of the need for more central midfield options and given that Wilson Palacios has been off form and Brazilian Sandro is still a little raw, the introduction of someone like Van Bommel could be a good purchase. We are after all talking about a player who has won seven domestic titles across three different countries, a player who has won the Champions League and took part in last year’s final against Inter Milan and of course played his part in taking Holland to the World Cup Final last summer.
