Karim Benzema has told fellow Frenchman Gerard Houllier he is willing to join him at Aston Villa if Real Madrid get Emmanuel Adebayor.
Benzema has only started six league games for Spanish giants Real this term and is usually a sub under boss Jose Mourinho.
The striker, who scored in France’s win over England at Wembley in November, is getting increasingly frustrated at the Bernabeu behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo. Now with Real interested in Manchester City striker Adebayor , Benzema’s prospects seem bleaker.
And he is willing to agree a loan deal that would see him working again with his old Lyon manager Houllier, who helped him make his name before a £30million move in July 2009 to Real. (Daily Mirror)
Would this really happen? Seems a bit odd. Jose Mourinho is looking for attacking back up options and clearly if he simply brings in Emmanuel Adebayor and then loans out Karim Benzema he will have the same amount of strikers to call upon. Clearly Houllier has been a big influence on the 23 year old but whether the French international would pass up the chance to impress at Real Madrid in order to team up with his former boss is another matter entirely.
Whilst Benzema has not been hitting the back of the net regularly since first choice striker Gonzalo Higuain was sidelined, he has become a focal part of Real’s attacks and does a lot of work to help his team-mates and Jose Mourinho will probably want to keep the former Lyon man regardless of additions to his squad. A deal in the summer may be more likely but it seems unlikely a permanent move to Aston Villa would occur.
