Arsene Wenger’s interest in Phil Jagielka is well known and despite the England international being on a long term contract at Everton, the Arsenal boss is keen to make another offer for the 28 year old who has been in good form this season.
The Arsenal boss is desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements as he looks to end a five year long silverware drought and he is willing to spend big to get his man. David Moyes however is unlikely to listen to offers for the former Sheffield United man as he is a crucial part of his back line.
Wenger has been trailing a number of defenders and will look to bring someone in this month but is understandably unsure of spending huge sums on the likes of Gary Cahill who may well have shown what they are capable of but is still the subject of some inflated valuation.
Jagielka at least has more experience and has been at the top of his game for a few years now and is perhaps a player who better suits Arsenal.
Arsenal will renew their interest in Everton’s Phil Jagielka having been priced out of a move for Gary Cahill.
Arsene Wenger had enquired about the Bolton man but have been dissuaded from pursuing her matter any further after being quoted a transfer fee of £20m. The Gunners will switch their attention to Jagielka whom they have been monitoring for the last 12 months. At 28, he would go against the grain on signing young talent but he in the prime of his career and would need little adjustment to playing for a big club after recently becoming a regular for England.
Everton are naturally reluctant to sell such a key player but with money tight at Goodison Park new singings can only be made with the proceeds of player sales.
Arsenal will offer £12m which will almost certainly be turned down but could be successful if they return with an extra £3m. (Sportingo)
