In an extended interview with Goal.com, Belgian starlet Romelu Lukaku has revealed the list of Premier League clubs he would consider.
“[Chelsea] is my favourite team,” said Lukaku. “I have always said it and I have never hidden it. But it is not because Chelsea is my favourite team that I have to go there. There is also Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. These big five are very interesting. Tottenham are also a good club. As a young kid you dream of playing in every big team. It is not because Chelsea is my favourite team that I have to specifically go there.”
Lukaku also stated that he feels he is most likely to reach his potential in the English top flight.
“If I see the games and some action in the Premier League, with my qualities I think I can play there. I’m very fast, I’m very strong and I work a lot. If I train with players with more quality I can be better than I am here. I want to improve. As a young kid you have to improve every single day. You have to work, you have to be ready. You have to take care of yourself and not get injured. You have to train a lot and get better, not by resting and watching the other players play.
Of course, I admire Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid is a great club. But I see England as more likely than Spain.”
Given the form this season of Didier Drogba – with or without malaria – perhaps Roman Abramovich ought to reach into his wallet and dig out a few million to throw Anderlecht’s way for Romelu Lukaku.
Just 17 years old but with almost limitless potential, Lukaku already starts for the Belgium national team, and scored a brace in November against Russia.
Manchester United scarcely need forwards, while Manchester City have even more options up front, but Liverpool and Arsenal could certainly use the youngster – as could Tottenham, as Lukaku has plenty of experience as a lone striker.
He is quick, a fine finisher and possesses extraordinary strength. Witness how easily he knocks Russian defenders off the ball in the video below:
