Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has shown his support for interim manager Kenny Dalglish and wants the Scotsman to stay in charge at Anfield.
59 year old Dalglish took over last month after the sacking of Roy Hodgson and Gerrard expressed his opinions to Liverpool magazine LFC Weekly. Gerrard said: ‘I want to do everything in my power to ensure that he stays here for a long time, beyond the initial six months. I won’t lie. When Kenny rang to say he was coming back it was a big lift.’
The director of football at Anfield, Damian Comolli, is in charge of finding a permanent replacement at the club and has said that Dalglish, who originally managed Liverpool back in the 80’s, will be considered for the role.
Dalglish hasn’t had the best of starts at Anfield, getting one point from six Premier League points on offer and going out of the FA Cup to local rivals Manchester United, but will be looking to put that right with victory over fellow strugglers Wolves on Saturday. Gerrard still maintains that Dalglish can do the job. ‘He’s the perfect manager and also person to bring it all together. It’s time to re-group and for us all to be pulling in the right direction because this season certainly hasn’t been good enough’, the Liverpool skipper said.
