Manchester United could see up to 10 players leaving the club after the end of the current campaign, according to The Times.
It is thought that the Red Devils will enter into talks concerning players’ contracts over the next few weeks, with six members of the squad set to finish their spells at Old Trafford during the summer. A further 10 players have less than 18 months left on their current deals.
Out of the six players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the campaign, goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is widely expected to hang up his gloves while injury riddled midfielder Owen Hargreaves is thought to be in line not to receive a new deal.
It is also thought that United have no intention of taking up the option of a third year on Michael Owen’s contract, which would leave him free to move to any club he chooses on a Bosman transfer. Goal.com exclusively revealed recently that defender Gary Neville will call it a day at the end of the season.
Wes Brown, whose current deal expires in 2012, fell out with Ferguson some time back, and it has also been reported that goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak will not be handed a new contract.
Patrice Evra wants to leave Manchester United in the summer and spend the remainder of his career at Real Madrid, as Goal.com exclusively revealed.
It is also reported that the futures of Ritchie de Laet and Darron Gibson are also not set in stone at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson does appear to be looking to the future with his most recent acquistions (Hernandez, Smalling and Bebe) and it does seem that some of his squad players appear to have become surplus to requirements but would the Old Trafford side really make such sweeping changes? After all we are talking about a club who is unbeaten in Premier League action.
It does seem very likely that those whose contracts are up in the summer will not get them renewed but that is simply because they are not really players who figure in Sir Alex’s plans. However it seems highly unlikely that Patrice Evra would be sold, and rumours of his move to Real Madrid have been circulating for the best part of two years.
Admittedly Manchester United could well be looking to freshen things up with the addition of some young talent to go with the players coming through the club’s academy system. Hence their being linked to the likes of Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson and Wolves winger Matt Jarvis.
Ferguson is not a man to act just for the sake of it. He will take a look at his squad come the end of the season and will see who in his squad he can afford to lose and who it is imperative he keeps. Youngster Darron Gibson has shown glimpses of what he is all about without being too spectacular so I can see him being kept where as back up keeper Tomasz Kuszczak may elect to leave on his own accord due to lack of first team opportunities and the very real chance he will be passed over when a successor to Edwin Van der Sar is being lined up.
Michael Owen is surely very unlikely to get a new deal unless it is a pay as you play deal, which the England hopeful may not be too keen on. The likes of Sunderland are said to be interested. Gary Neville seems likely to hang up his boots as he has looked way off the pace when called upon.
As said before a lot this summer depends on how this season pans out, perhaps reports of a cull will get certain players to buck up their ideas, a trick that would surely not be beyond the type of mind games that Sit Alex Ferguson excels in.
