Arsenal are being linked with a shock move for Barcelona defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano.
The Argentine international midfielder has fallen out of favour at the Nou Camp under manager Pep Guardiola, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly considering a surprise swoop for the player.
Mascherano has struggled to fit into the La Liga leaders’ first team following his £22 million move to Catalonia in the summer, and reports in Spain claim that he is considering a move back to England, with Arsenal reportedly ready to provide the player with a new home.

So could this move really happen? Well firstly if there were any plans to bring the former Liverpool battler to the Emirates they could not come to fruition until the summer due to the FIFA ruling drawn out below.
Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during
one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play
official matches for two clubs. (FIFA)
So then let’s discuss whether Javier Mascherano to Arsenal is a realistic suggestion for next season. Well as a deal it seems very unlike one Arsene Wenger would make. Firstly it seems that the Arsenal boss is more than happy with Alex Song in the enforcer role with Denilson as a very able back up. Two players with youth on their side and a great deal of potential.
There are a few areas that the Emirates boss is probably looking to strengthen, a new keeper, new striker even but it seems that a new defensive midfielder would be low down on his list of priorities.
Also another factor that may well make such a move hugely unlikely is the obvious problematic relationship between the two clubs in relation the Catalan club’s incessant chasing, illegally or otherwise, of Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, an issue that will clearly stand in the way of other transfer dealings between the two clubs.
