Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly looking to swap an Old Trafford left back for a Bernabeu right back, surely that can’t be right?

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has revealed he is very happy at Old Trafford, but concedes should Sir Alex Ferguson decide to sell him, a move to Real Madrid would be favourable.
Rumours continue to purport to the France international’s desire to play at the Bernabeu, but the Premier League star suggests he would only consider leaving Manchester United on their terms and only if Ferguson deemed him surplus to requirements.
Evra is contracted to the Red Devils until 2012 but although the player maintains his commitment to the Premier League leaders, there is a suggestion he may not be eager to extend his current deal.
Reports in Spain over the weekend have suggested United may endeavour to engineer a swap deal involving Sergio Ramos for Evra, and the Frenchman would seemingly not be adverse to such an outcome.
Could this really be a deal that is in the offing? Seems far fetched in the extreme, not least because we are talking of a swap of a left back for a right back and that would appear to do little favours for either side. Manchester United have been linked with a move for Sergio Ramos earlier in the month and speculation linking Patrice Evra with a move to the Bernabeu have been circulating for the best part of two years and it seems this source has put two and two together and got five.
Ramos is a quality defender who can ply his trade equally comfortably at full back or in the centre of defence but there is some talk of a falling out between the Spanish World Cup winner and Cristiano Ronaldo, and this has led some to believe the 24 year old wants to leave and that has led to the £25m rated defender with a move away from the La Liga giants.
However, does Sir Alex Ferguson need a right back? Young Brazilian Rafael is coming along nicely and is clearly one for the future who is more than capable of cutting it now, so Ferguson wouldn’t appear to need a new right sided defender, let alone one who would cost an arm and a leg.
Evra has been a big success at Old Trafford and the 29 year old French international is hugely important to the club and only Nemanja Vidic has played more minutes of Premier League football this term and Sir Alex will not for one second considering selling the former Monaco man.
