Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho will turn his attentions towards Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko to ease the current burden on his front men at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid are desperate to find a forward during the January transfer window as they seek to keep up with La Liga champions and arch-rivals Barcelona at the top of the First Division standings, especially now that it has been confirmed that Argentina international striker Gonzalo Higuain will be out of action for up to four months with a back injury.
Initially, Mourinho asked the club’s director of football Jorge Valdano to recruit Manchester City’s unsettled striker Emmanuel Adebayor, however, the Premier League club were demanding a fee of £15 million for the Togo international and Madrid are only interested in taking a player on loan until the end of the season.
That, therefore, may also put an end to Mourinho’s plans to bring Didier Drogba to the Spanish capital, which is why the Portuguese has now turned his attention towards Spurs’ Russia international, who barely features at White Hart Lane these days.
By all accounts Roman Pavlyuchenko is now very much a Jose Mourinho target now that other moves in the transfer market failed to bear fruit. The White Hart Lane striker doesn’t get much of a look in at Tottenham, just nine Premier League starts, but has a lot of experience and appears to be a player that the Real Madrid boss rates.
Harry Redknapp has bemoaned his strikers lack of cutting edge this season so may well accept offers for the £10m rated Russian international, money the Spurs boss can then re-invest in alternatives.
Despite his lack of regular first team football the former Spartak Moscow man has netted nine times this season in all competitions and the target man may well be a useful Real Madrid signing as they look to resolve the thread bare nature of their strike force.
