Liverpool have made an enquiry to sign Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
After falling out of favour at Eastlands, and getting involved in a training ground bust-up with team-mate Kolo Toure, it is understood that Adebayor will be allowed to leave club, and Liverpool have expressed an interest in him, according to Sky Sports.
The former Arsenal striker has fallen behind Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli in the pecking order, and will struggle further as the arrival of Edin Dzeko appears imminent.
Liverpool would be in the market for the Togolese forward on loan, given that City would be keen to recoup most of the £25million fee they spent on him just over 18 months ago.
OK, so it appears that Emmanuel Adebayor was approached by Liverpool before he was lured by Jose Mourinho to the Bernabeu. However his move to Real Madrid is only a loan deal so there is some speculation that in the summer the Anfield side will look to stump up the £18m that Manchester City are looking to get for the Togo international, a bid that will become even more likely if during this transfer window the Merseyside side do not manage to bring in any of their striker targets.
Moves to bring Luis Suarez to the club have stalled and with the clock ticking and Ajax not looking to lower their price it could be that the deal to bring the Uruguayan international will not get done before the transfer window slams shut.
The ball is very much in Real Madrid’s court with regard to Adebayor’s future. The La Liga giants appear to have first refusal on the former Arsenal man but it appears that there capturing of the giant striker is very much seen as a short term solution by Mourinho. However if the 26 year old impresses then perhaps they will make an offer to bring him to the club on a permanent deal.
The problem for Adebayor would be that when fully fit, Gonzalo Higuain would once again be the first choice striker and much like Roberto Mancini, Mourinho has adopted a one man up front policy and therefore the Eastlands striker would simply switching one bench for another.
Liverpool may see Emmanuel Adebayor’s powers as a hold up man as a very good foil for Fernando Torres and hence their interest in the powerful striker and it appears the Damien Comolli is keen to revisit the idea of signing the Man City man in the summer if they haven’t signed someone by that time.
