Tottenham Hotspur are rumoured to be considering a move for Villarreal club captain Marcos Senna.
Senna is currently out of action with another of the hamstring injuries that have plagued him recently, which have meant he has not been able to play as regularly as he would like.
The La Liga club are believed to be willing to mutually terminate his contract, which expires in the summer, and Spurs are reportedly keen to snap up a player of his experience.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is thought to desire Senna’s signature because of the midfielder’s ability to retain possession and dictate tempo, which would be vital in away fixtures in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage.
Though his recent injury record isn’t the greatest, if Senna was managed correctly just to play the big matches, it would be less of a problem.
The winner of EURO 2008 with his adopted nation of Spain, that Spanish passport means there would be no work permit issues for Tottenham to resolve.
Senna has played in the UEFA Europa League in the first half of the season for Villarreal, but is still eligible to be registered in the top tier of European football competition for Spurs.
