Tottenham’s search for added firepower has led Harry Redknapp to Bayern Munich as the North London side plan a big money bid for German international Mario Gomez. The White Hart Lane boss has become increasingly worried about his ineffective strike force and will now hope that a move for the powerfully built striker may prove successful.
The 25 year old started the season as a back up but Allianz Arena boss Louis Van Gaal has been forced to re-think his stance towards the former Stuttgart striker after he quickly found his feet after an average first season at the Bavarian club. Gomez has now scored three hat-tricks this season and has netted a total of 24 goals in all competitions this season.
Redknapp may feel he can persuade Gomez to move to Tottenham with the promise of regular first team football, something that the Bayern Munich man may feel he could lose instantly should he hit a spate of poor form, not least because the Bundesliga club have a number of other strikers including young up and coming talent who Van Gaal may turn to next term.
Bayern Munich find themselves in third place in the domestic table, some 14 points behind the runaway leaders Borussia Dortmund and this too many help in Redknapp’s attempts to lure the £16m Rated striker to the Premier League.
This far this season Tottenham’s recognised striking quartet, Jermaine Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch, have managed just six Premier League goals between them this season leaving the top four chasing outfit urgently looking for reinforcements.
