Newcastle United are believed to have made an offer in the region of £12m for Tottenham striker Peter Crouch. Alan Pardew has been left to make urgent moves to replace Liverpool bound Andy Carroll and has set his sights on the England international who is by no means a first choice starter at White Hart Lane and therefore a player the St James’ Park boss feels he could perhaps lure to the club before the transfer deadline at 11pm this evening.
30 year old Crouch has started just 13 Premer League matches this term and has netted just one goal leading to speculation that Harry Redknapp would listen to offers for a player he signed in the summer of 2009 after a successful stint at Portsmouth.
The giant striker has had far more success whilst on Champions League duty having netted six goals in six starts and has the experience and ability to be a success at the north-east club.
Newcastle United have a large transfer budget to invest in a new striker signing having secured £35m from the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool and are hoping to bring someone in today and have also been linked with moves for Bolton’s Johan Elmander and West Ham striker Carlton Cole.
