Harry Redknapp has launched a £17million deadline-day bid to sign Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan.
Tottenham manager Redknapp watched the Uruguay international earlier this month and has made a fresh move with the clock ticking towards the end of the January window.
Atletico have already knocked back a £13m offer from rivals Real Madrid for Forlan and the 31-year-old is on a weekly wage of £85,00 in the Spanish capital.
Readknapp has already been unsuccessful in attempts to sign Forlan’s team-mate Sergio Aguero and Newcastle striker Andy Carroll.

Harry Redknapp was of course in Madrid recently watching Diego Forlan, on the trip which saw the Tottenham boss get mugged, now it seems he is out to spend big on the Uruguayan international in a deal that the La Liga side may decide to accept.
The 31 year old has been a huge success in Spain since leaving Old Trafford after a poor spell at Man United and now the Spurs boss wants to bring the striker back to the Premier League to help boost his failing strike force.
Redknapp had earlier moved to deny reports the North London club had made a bid for Forlan’s strike partner at the Vicente Calderon, Sergio Aguero.
Forlan has scored a phenomenal 153 goals in Spain over the last six and a half seasons.
