Arsenal will go back for Barcelona’s latest midfield sensation Sergi Samper in the summer – and also sign young goalkeeper Ballester Pol.
The pair are currently training at Barca’s famous Cantera youth set up and have attracted interest from a string of Europe’s elite clubs.
Arsenal signed Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona when he was just 16 years old and Samper has already been compared to the Arsenal captain as well as Barcelona playmaker Xavi.
But as well as Samper, Gunners scouts are keeping tabs on Pol, the goalkeeper who has represented Spain at Under-16 level.
Samper, 15, has not yet signed professional terms at Barca and Arsenal were expected to offer him a four-year deal in January.
But, according to reports in Spain, Arsenal will renew their interest at the end pf the season also negotiate a deal for Pol, who is also a target for north London rivals Tottenham.
This sounds very familiar. What we can expect is that six or seven years after both players become regulars at the Emirates Stadium Barcelona’s player’s of the day will repeat ad infinitum that the pair are destined to return and that no force on earth will prevent them from returning to the Camp Nou.
But seriously this would be a good move by the Gunners boss and Arsene Wenger is obviously keen to continue his cost effective manner of building future Arsenal squad which given the upcoming UEFA regulations relating to expenditure, will become all the more important.
UEFA have spoken out in recent days about the huge spending seen by Man City and Chelsea and their concerns that such activity may in long run be unsustainable and that those very clubs spending huge sums now will have to cut costs to the extreme in order to stick within the guidelines.
As for the two players mentioned by all accounts Sergi Samper is an attack minded midfielder who has attracted a great deal of interest and is of course likened to a certain Cesc Fabregas but one wonders if Arsenal really need to bring in another young keeper in Ballester Pol? With Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczesny both on the Gunners books does Wenger need to bring in another custodian?
