Alan Pardew is reportedly interested in Wolves striker Kevin Doyle and has identified the Irish international as a potential summer signing as the Newcastle United boss plans moves to bring in a new striker to make up for the loss of Andy Carroll to Liverpool.
27 year old Doyle is in his second season at Molineux and is a consistent Premier League performer who earned a reputation as a hard working front man during successful four year stint at Reading and Pardew may feel he could snare the former Cork City striker if Mick McCarthy’s side fail to avoid the drop to the Championship.
Despite Wolves shock win over Man United on the weekend they still find themselves joint bottom of the Premier League. Magpies owner Mike Ashley will apparently hand Pardew a portion of the money made from the sale of Carroll but nowhere near the total £35m paid by the Merseyside club.
This will force Pardew to look for an intelligent purchase of an experienced goalscorer as opposed to being able to spend big on an established star. Doyle cost Wolves £6.5m 18 months ago and is reported to be valued at around £9m having netted a very decent 15 times in 55 starts for the West Midlands club.
