Arsenal and Inter Milan are set for a summer battle for Sevilla winger Jesus Navas .
Navas impressed during Spain’s triumphant World Cup campaign, his pace and ability to beat defenders proving a threat to defences, especially when coming off the bench.
The 25-year-old has spent his entire career at Sevilla, and has recently signed a contract extension to keep him there until 2015, including a €35-million buyout clause.
But according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, both Arsenal and Inter have made enquiries about signing the player in the summer.
Firstly, Arsenal would surely not spend the kind of money needed to activate the release clause and secondly, even if they were the type of club to splash the cash, would they even need to? Emirates boss Arsene Wenger appears to be in far greater need for defensive reinforcements rather than forking out such a huge sum for a winger.
Jesus Navas is a quality player, now in his eighth season in the Sevilla first team, some believe he is not likely to leave Spain any time soon and overtures from the Premier League and indeed Serie A may well be wasted.
The 25 year old is something of an old fashioned winger. Able to beat his man for pace, more so than an elaborate trick, and has the ability to put in quality crosses and weigh in with a few goals to boot, the Sevilla born wide man is something of a home body and having spent the last ten years at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán it would take a brave man to bet on his leaving so soon after signing a lengthy contract extension.
The Gunners appear to have little problem creating chances and indeed finishing them off, 54 goals from 25 games says it all. However having conceded 27 one would imagine that Wenger would have his work cut out looking for another centre back as well as perhaps a commanding keeper rather than looking to bring in another attacker.
