Sport.es are reporting that Real Madrid are putting together a blockbusting €60m deal to present to the Gunners in a bid to persuade them to sell their captain. The revelation comes hot on the heels of reports in The Sun this week that Chelsea are planning a similar sized bid for the 23-year-old while Barcelona declared the any possibility of him returning to his boyhood club as ‘dead’.
It has become something of a summer ritual at Arsenal to have their best players linked with big money moves to La Liga with Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Fabregas all perennially linked to Spain’s big two. Add to that the departures of Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit and Alexander Hleb to Barcelona as well as Nicolas Anelka to Real Madrid and the pattern has been well and truly set over the past decade or so.
Arsenal are sure to resist any offers with cashflow not an issue at the club yet the main concern would be whether Fabregas will choose to remain in North London for another season having already deferred his departure by a year. However, a silverware – more specifically the Premier League trophy – could yet convince him his future lies at the Emirates Stadium.
So now that Barcelona have supposedly called off moves for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas it seems that Real Madrid and Chelsea will take over and look to nab the Spanish international. However it seems highly likely that any move to sign the 23 year old will be strongly repelled by the North London club.
Arsene Wenger may well be considering the future of a number of his first team squad, with the likes of Andrei Arshavin, Denilson, Nicklas Bendtner, Manuel Almunia and Carlos Vela all reportedly linked with moves away from the club, but the Gunners boss will not for one second consider offers for his skipper, especially from a rival Premier League side.
It does seem likely that Barcelona will come back in for their former youth team star and any reports that state they will not do so seem simply like more mind games from the Catalan club. For his part Cesc Fabregas has committed himself to winning trophies at Arsenal before considering any departure, so one wonders what would happen if the club picked up either the Premier League or Champions League titles this term?
Chelsea are said to be planning big moves in the transfer market in the summer and after Roman Abramovich pumped in the cash to land Fernando Torres and David Luiz last month, it does seem the Russian billionaire is looking to challenge Man City for big names signings again.
The West London club is also looking to freshen up their squad and a number of the club’s older players are said to be potentially exit bound with the likes of Florent Malouda, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka linked with move abroad.
