Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell will be out of action for a month with a groin injury.
The 19-year-old midfielder lasted only 12 minutes of England’s Under-21 friendly defeat to Italy on Tuesday before being substituted with the injury.
He has undergone assessment at the club’s Finch Farm training ground and used Twitter to suggest he would be out for “four to six weeks”.
But the club’s website expects the teenager to be out for a month.
This is big blow for the youngster who was beginning to establish himself in David Moyes’ team. There was even talk of a call-up into Fabio Capello’s England squad.
Rodwell earned his first Under-21 cap against France in March 2009 and scored his first goal for the team in June of that year against Azerbaijan.
Although currently a midfielder, it has been suggested that he could ultimately move back into central defence and there is constant speculation Sir Alex Ferguson will sign him for Manchester United.
Rodwell has made nine starts for Everton this season, with eight appearances as a substitute, scoring one goal.
