Arsene Wenger is lining up a move to sign Ipswich Town teenager Connor Wickham. The Arsenal boss has been monitoring the progress of the Hereford born striker and of course had the chance to see him in action first hand during their Carling Cup semi-final encounters but the 17 year old’s latest goal showed another dimension to the starlet’s abilities and will make a move for the £10m rated front man all the more likely.
Arsenal will reportedly conduct something of a clear out in the summer and among those said to be on their way to an Emirates exit are strikers Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela which will leave the club with in form first choice starter Robin Van Persie and impressive Moroccan international Marouane Chamakh as the main avenues of fire-power.
The Gunners boss is said to be a very big admirer of Connor Wickham who has shown maturity beyond his years as he has become a fixture in the Tractor Boys first team squad and whilst Paul Jewell will be loathed to lose a player with such great potential, he will not look to stand in the way of such a big move.
There was talk about a move being completed in January that would have seen the striker loaned back to the Portman Road side but that deal fell be the wayside. Arsene Wenger is also keen to seal a deal to bring Southampton attacker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer.
Arsenal will face competition from Manchester City for both players according to some sources.
Here is the goal that may well help secure a move to the Premier League for Connor Wickham.
