Chelsea’s up and down season is leading Carlo Ancelotti to look for new additions and has set his sights on three Brazilian’s who I am duty bound to term as ‘Samba Stars’. There is also continued speculation about the futures of ageing attackers Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda and Jose Bosingwa may be on his way also.
Tottenham and Liverpool both want Wolfsburg centre back Simon Kjaer and that could prove be an interesting bidding war. Harry Redknapp already has the following central defenders, Jonathan Woodgate, Ledley King, William Gallas, Sebastien Bassong, Michael Dawson, Younes Kaboul and Bongani Khumalo to name just seven.
Kenny Dalglish’s need may be more pressing as a few of his centre backs are getting on a bit, such as Sotirios Kyrgiakos and Jamie Carragher. Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger have worked well as part of a back three in recent weeks but perhaps another option would be useful for next term.
Manchester United want Roma hardman Daniele De Rossi and could offer Federico Macheda and/or Anderson in part exchange, along with a whopping fee to boot. Owen Hargreaves seems no nearer to getting fit so a new tough tackler is needed especially as Paul Scholes, the great tackler that he is, is nearing the end of his glittering career.
Arsenal had been chasing Blackburn Rovers youngster Phil Jones as they too need defensive reinforcements as the likes of Thomas Vermaelen are injured, Sebastian Squillaci also has his fair share of knocks and has been patchy form-wise this season. Arsene Wenger has to therefore count on Laurent Koscielny and Johann Djourou for the rest of the season, a fact that will no doubt worry and irritate Gunners supporters in equal measure.
Charles N’Zogbia is glad he turned down Birmingham, which is probably exactly how Alex McLeish feels about the situation and Zlatan Ibrahimovic has stated the reasons he turned down a move to Manchester City, one of which must have revolved around the fact that the club has the following strikers on their books. Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko, Jo, Roque Santa Cruz, Emmanuel Adebayor and Mario Balotelli, although that’s just six and a few of those will be sold this summer….surely!
