Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has admitted he would rather win the Champions League then retain the Premier League title.

The 32-year-old says having won the league three times in his career, the Champions League is the honour he covets most.

Chelsea have never won the European competition but did finish runners-up in 2008, losing to Manchester United on penalties in the final.

The Blues currently find themselves 12 points behind league leaders Manchester United and face a battle with London rivals Tottenham to finish in the qualifying places for next season’s Champions League.

But Lampard does feel if Chelsea can get a run together in Europe it could help their domestic form.

When asked if he would sacrifice the league for the Champions League, Lampard said to The Mirror: ”It’s a horrible question – but I would say I would. I hate putting one above the other but having won three Premier League titles the Champions League is the one to win.”

“I think if you’re going well in the Champions League it can help your league form. If you’re winning in Europe, that form can be carried into the league.”
