Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere believes the Gunners got their tactics right and produced his greatest day for Arsenal.
The 19-year-old was the outstanding midfield player on show, putting Spanish World and European Cup winners Xavi and Andres Iniesta in the shade.
At half-time Arsenal were trailing to David Villa’s 26th minute strike and despite having minimal possession, the North London club launched a memorable comeback with goals from Robin Van Persie and Andrey Arshavin.
But Wilshere paid tribute to his teammates for keeping their tactical discipline.
“It has been a crazy last couple of weeks and this probably tops it. This has been my best day as an Arsenal player by far,” he told Sky Sports.
“It is not over yet. We have got the second leg and we have to go there and get a result and go through to the quarters.
“They had a spell of 20 minutes in the first half when we couldn’t get the ball off them.
“We knew they were going to be like that, we just had to hold out and defend well and hit them on the counter-attack, and that’s what we did.”
